Something for everyone
There are many destinations to choose from, each with its own unique charm and attractions.
You can explore the lush Okavango Delta in Botswana, the iconic Maasai Mara in Kenya, the historic Serengeti in Tanzania, or the diverse Kruger National Park in South Africa.
You can tailor your safari to suit your riding level and interests, from fast-paced to leisurely, from scenic to adventurous. You can also enjoy other activities such as game drives, boat trips, bush walks and cultural visits.
You will be guided by experienced and knowledgeable guides who have a passion for horses and wildlife.
They will ensure your safety and enjoyment, as well as share their insights and stories about the places and animals you will see.
Some of the guides are local to the countries you will visit, while others are from abroad but have lived and worked in Africa for many years. They all have a common goal: to make your horse safari an unforgettable experience.
Some of our favourite family safari destinations in Africa offer spectacular horseback safaris.
The Okavango Delta offers not only incredible wildlife, but the unique experience of riding through flooded plains.
The picturesque Laikipia region in Kenya is another bucket list spot for traversing the open savannah and rocky gorges on horseback whilst witnessing endangered species like the rhino and African wild dog.
You can explore Africa’s diversity of landscapes on horseback all year-round.
Generally, the dry season, which is June to October for most of sub-Saharan Africa, is a good time to go on safari, as the animals tend to gather around water sources and the vegetation is less dense, making them easier to spot.
However, if you are looking for a more unique experience, you can opt to take to horseback to witness the Great Migration from December to March and again from June to Mid-November.
Most lodges cater for both advanced and beginner riders, with the most family-friendly options in South Africa and Kenya.
Whilst some of the big game encounters and the wild nature of some landscapes, especially in Botswana, require more experienced riders.
