Etendeka Mountain Camp
Simple comfort in the rugged mountains of the Etendeka
Etendeka Mountain Camp
Nestled in the captivating foothills of the Grootberg massif in northern Damaraland, Etendeka Mountain Camp is a true haven for nature enthusiasts seeking an authentic and eco-conscious wilderness experience.
With ten ensuite Meru tents, the camp combines modern comforts with a deep respect for the environment. Each tent has been thoughtfully refurbished, while the traditional open-air bucket shower remains an iconic feature, allowing guests to connect with the surrounding landscape while freshening up.
Etendeka’s commitment to eco-friendly values is evident in every aspect of the camp, with its use of solar ovens and open fires providing a true taste of traditional African cuisine. Notably, Etendeka is one of only two establishments to have received the highest rank in the Namibian Eco-awards.
Alongside game drives through the Etendeka Concession, morning guided walks invite guests to engage in discussions about the importance of local conservancies and their impact on the community. Or guests can embark on a self-guided ‘sundowner walk’ to explore the surrounding terrain and take in the spectacular setting.
In the evening, Dennis and Bonnie, the camp’s hosts, take advantage of the minimal light and air pollution by pointing out intriguing constellations, stars, and planets with the aid of a ‘star pointer’ and telescope.
