Mwamba Bush Camp
An adventurous bushcamp in the remote north of South Luangwa
Mwamba Bush Camp
Mwamba Bush Camp has been transformed from a hiding spot for poachers to a wildlife haven in the northern South Luangwa.
Owned by Derek and Jules Shenton – seasoned conservationists and keen photographers – Mwamba is an authentic satellite camp for the nearby Kaingo Camp. Guests can even do a 6km walking safari between the two camps, arriving at Mwamba in time for lunch.
Just four thatched chalets, reconstructed every year, are set along the dry banks of the remote Mwamba River giving the camp a rustic old-world feel. When not exploring the bush, guests can enjoy the camp’s various wildlife hides, with the ‘Last Waterhole Hide’—located beside a permanent water source—being the most productive.
Families can immerse themselves in a range of authentic Zambian safari experiences at Mwamba Bush Camp. In addition to morning and night game drives that reveal the South Luangwa National Park’s iconic wildlife—such as elephants, leopards, and lions—families can embark on afternoon guided walking safaris.
For a truly unique experience, families can opt for a night under the stars in the camp’s Numbu star bed or on a multi-day camp-out adventure. These sleepouts allow guests to connect with nature in a breathtaking setting, listening to the sounds of the African night while feeling the thrill of sleeping under a vast canopy of stars.
An adventurous stay at Mwamba Bush Camp combines perfectly with the more luxurious Kaingo Camp, creating a luxury family safari holiday you will never forget.
