Old Mondoro Camp
A simple camp set on a hippo-friendly channel off the Zambezi
Old Mondoro Camp
Named after the local Goba legend of a white lion that used to prowl the area, Old Mondoro Camp is one of the last authentic bush camps remaining on the Zambezi River.
Although the white lion is long gone, the region is still renowned for its Big Cat sightings with guests often enjoying six separate leopard sightings in just three days! The camp is also unfenced with regular visits from elephants feasting on the nearby winterthorn trees, large herds of buffalo and an extreme concentration of hippo. There is enough activity to encourage a lodge-based safari, but the camp also offers twice daily game drives, guided walking safaris and canoe trips to maximise game-viewing.
Old Mondoro Camp is one of the most intimate camps in the Zambezi with only six reed chalets facing out onto the Zambezi River. The solar-powered chalets each have a large outdoor stone splash tub and a comfortable relaxing area with shaded day beds, perfect for relaxed moments between game drives. Families with younger children can enjoy a stay in the spacious two bedroom chalet which, originally the owners’ property, has a lovely home away from home feel.
With its secluded charm and unrivalled predator sightings, Old Mondoro Camp offers the perfect blend of adventure and relaxation for families seeking an authentic Zambezi safari.
