Rockfig is a safari lodge as we particularly enjoy them – small, family-owned and run, and set in a really striking location.

Having only 6 suites, this gem of a destination is the perfect choice for tailored service, flexibility and the option to set your own pace. Twice daily game drives are on offer, and for those who are keen we highly recommend exploring the Timbavati Game Reserve on foot with a walking safari.

We find this a particularly good way to experience the bush – slow and absorbing. One can cover a good distance in a vehicle, but being on foot reveals all the small details you may otherwise miss.

For game drives, families are automatically guaranteed a private vehicle, thereby ensuring the freedom to enjoy the bush as you wish, without worrying about impacting other guests’ experiences. You can also return to camp whenever you are ready, without having to fit into someone else’s schedule.

That said, you may find yourselves having a surprise meal in the bush instead….the staff at Rockfig are well known for pulling off memorable bush picnics in beautiful locations.

Dinners in camp are usually fun affairs, and a few drinks round the fire beforehand are a must.The lodge is unobtrusively fenced, preventing large wildlife from coming to visit, making it a particularly good option for families.
