Zuri Zanzibar

Zuri Zanzibar is a villa and bungalow resort that opened in 2018 and has a big focus on design and sustainability. The owners have managed to craft a property that is contemporary, whilst drawing on traditional Swahili influences. The result is something quite wonderful.

Zuri’s best asset is arguably its location. Situated in the Kendwa region of northwest Zanzibar it has the privileged position of occupying one of the few non-tidal and most picturesque beaches in Zanzibar. The lagoons is always calm, allowing for all-day swimming from the beach, which is a rare treat in Zanzibar.

Accommodation is provided in 55 sumptuous villas and bungalows, which have been sited throughout the 12-hectare property to provide comfort and privacy. Zuri is a member of the Design Hotels group, so it’s no surprise huge attention to detail has been paid in crafting the lodgings, which are all sleek and modern, whilst utilising the best of traditional Swahili design and construction.

Activities are numerous and there is something for everyone – from yoga lessons in the spice garden, to cruises on their traditional dhow complete with a beach picnic, or a full array of diving and watersports offered by the resident instructors. Alternatively, you may wish to just sit on the beach and watch the sunset, or meander through the extensive and expertly crafted spice gardens.
