Kakuli

Kakuli Bushcamp is an excellent choice for families looking for an authentic, adventurous safari in Zambia’s South Luangwa National Park. 

Set on an elevated bank over the floodplain of the Luangwa River, the camp offers incredible wildlife viewing from its open-sided central area, where elephants, impala, and baboons frequently wander past. 

With just five simple yet comfortable tented chalets, Kakuli provides an intimate and peaceful atmosphere. The tents have canvas walls and thatched roofs, with private verandahs and even a swing overlooking the watering hole. 

Kakuli is perfect for families of all ages eager to experience a real bush adventure. The camp is renowned for its guided walking safaris, offering the chance to explore the surrounding wilderness on foot. For the more active, a short walk between Kakuli and its sister camp, Mchenja, adds another layer of excitement. Game drives, both at night and in the day, are also a highlight, with the chance to spot lions, leopards, and other Big Five wildlife close to the camp. 

For those wanting a more water-based adventure, Kakuli is one of the few camps open during Zambia’s ‘Emerald Season’ – from January to April – when the river is especially high and flocks of migratory birds arrive.
