Primate Lodge Kibale
A jungle eco-lodge found hidden away amongst the primates in Kibale national park
Primate Lodge Kibale
Primate Lodge Kibale is situated deep within the forest, adjacent to the starting point for chimpanzee tracking. This is the perfect base from which to explore Kibale National Park.
The property was once a backpackers hangout, but has now been reimagined as a luxury eco-lodge in the heart of the jungle.
The proximity to the Kanyanchu visitor’s centre – the departure point for chimp tracking – makes this the perfect choice of accommodation for those wanting to be close to the action.
In fact, as the lodge is unfenced, the action may well come to you. Sightings of monkeys from the cottage verandahs are common, and with 13 species of primate found in Kibale, there will be plenty for you identify.
The luxury cottages are very comfortable and finished with bright decoration and furnishings. Each has a hot-water shower and runs on solar power with a backup generator. The main lodge area is spacious and the restaurant serves delicious home-cooked food. The outdoor firepit attracts guests in the evening to share stories from the day of adventure.
Other activities include forest walk, birding walks, night walks, and excursions to the nearby crater lakes.
As the lodge grounds are completely open, a staff member will escort you to your room after dark. The minimum age for chimpanzee tracking is 15 and as that is the main activity here, we don’t recommend Primate Lodge Kibale for those travelling with young children. Those families are better suited to staying in the nearby, picturesque crater lakes region and travelling to the forest for activities.
