Ruzizi Tented Lodge
An eco-conscious lodge on the shores of Lake Ihema
Ruzizi Tented Lodge
Overlooking the tranquil shores of Lake Ihema, Ruzizi Tented Lodge offers families a charming gateway to the wonders of Akagera National Park.
This eco-conscious, solar-powered camp boasts nine charming tents, including a spacious family tent with space for two adults and two children and a Treetop Honeymoon tent raised above the lake on stilts. Each tent features ensuite bathrooms, shaded verandas, and handcrafted Rwandan furniture, and they are designed to blend into their lush surroundings.
Being one of just three camps situated inside Akagera National Park, Ruzizi offers an intimate experience where wildlife encounters are uninterrupted by other safari goers. Spend your days on game drives spotting the Big Five – including the reintroduced black rhino and lion – along with large herds of antelope such as the rare sitatunga. Budding explorers will delight in guided bush walks, where expert trackers reveal the park’s vibrant birdlife and teach you how to use animal tracks and scat to track game. For birdwatching enthusiasts, Akagera is home to 482 species, including the shoebill stork and African fish eagle.
Families can also enjoy tranquil boating safaris or fishing at Lake Shakani, savoring the unique experience of cooking and tasting their catch. And for a cultural twist, join a local guide for an authentic glimpse into village life, or tour the park headquarters to learn about conservation efforts. At Ruzizi, adventurous game drives and walking safaris are balanced with the comforts of a luxury safari camp.
