Chongwe House

Time + Tide’s Chongwe House is a unique, open-plan private house, offering an extraordinary family safari experience in the heart of the Lower Zambezi. 

The two-story building is seamlessly blended into the surrounding landscape, with its flowing stone designs reminiscent of something out of the Flintstones. The lounge, dining, and bar areas are open to the elements, leading to a wooden deck with a swimming pool and a game-viewing platform, offering unobstructed views of the wildlife-rich riverbank. 

Families will love the spaciousness of the four grand bedrooms, which open to the outdoors for stunning views of the Zambezi and feature hand-carved wooden furniture from a single fallen winterthorn tree. 

The house is perfectly set for adventure with easy access to the Zambezi river for water-based safaris. Spot resident hippos and over 370 species of bird or simply enjoy sundowners on your own island in the river. The nearby Lower Zambezi National Park also offers incredible wildlife viewing, especially of elephants, lions, and leopards, which thrive here during the dry season. 

The Chiawa Cultural Village, partly managed by the local Goba people, is a great opportunity for families to learn about local Zambian traditions, trades, and arts. Or for those looking for a little more adventure, guests can opt for a night sleeping out in the savannah under the stars.
