Machaba Camp
Family-friendly safaris in the Delta with an authentic early explorer feel
Machaba Camp
Modelled on a classic safari camp, reminiscent of the 1950s, Machaba Camp is nestled in a riverine forest on the banks of the game-rich Khwai River.
The ten ground-level luxury tents are linked by meandering paths, and have smartly presented ensuites, outdoor showers and private living areas. The main tent has a sparkling pool, with plentiful sun loungers for afternoon dozes, and a library packed with reading material. And families can be accommodated in the roomy two-bedroom suites on site.
Guests can choose to dine under the stars, in front of the main tent, or some may rather a more private setting by the pool or on their tent’s porch. In addition to this personalised touch, Machaba’s sustainable credentials include solar-powered electricity and an organic waste programme where it is neutralised and returned to the environment.
Activities include sunrise mokoro trips, where you can enjoy gliding along the calm waters as the bush wakes up. And you can take game drives through the nearby concession which is renowned for its large herds of elephants and buffalos as well as lions, leopards and wild dogs.
Armed guides are also on hand to take you on thrilling walking safaris, learning how locals navigate this wild environment.
