Musango Safari Camp
An exclusive family-owned camp set on a private island in Lake Kariba
Musango Safari Camp
Musango Safari Camp is a traditional, owner-run retreat set on a private island just outside Matusadona National Park.
Operated by Steve and Wendy Edwards and their son Graham—who all live on-site—Musango exudes a genuine, home-away-from-home warmth. The spacious, thatched two-story central lodge offers sweeping lake views, making it an ideal spot to savour sunrise over breakfast, while evenings invite guests to gather under starry skies around the cosy campfire. The luxury safari tents, though simple, are comfortable and thoughtfully designed, each facing east for sunrise views and featuring an en-suite bathroom crafted from natural stone.
Before founding the camp in 1990, Steve served as the game warden of Matusadona National Park, giving him unmatched knowledge of the region’s wildlife. Guests enjoy a truly personalised safari experience with walking safaris and game drives led by Steve himself. To deepen your appreciation of the area’s heritage, the camp’s museum, curated by Steve, showcases fascinating artefacts and fossils collected on the island.
Set on the remote southern shore of Lake Kariba, Musango Safari Camp is an excellent base for exploring the lake’s lively waters. Try your hand at fishing for bream, vundu, and the famous tiger fish from the camp pontoon, or embark on a scenic sundowner boat cruise to spot hippos and large crocodiles. A visit to the nearby village of Musampa offers insight into how the Tonga people thrive by the lake, providing an authentic glimpse into their vibrant culture.
As one of the few family-owned camps on Lake Kariba, Musango has retained its authentic bush camp charm, with a strong focus on personalised guiding and a rich connection to the surrounding landscape.
