The Highlands, Ngorongoro
Domed glass and canvas suites on a dormant volcano's slopes
The Highlands,Ngorongoro
Seamlessly integrated into the landscape and local culture, this camp surprises and delights at every turn
The Highlands, Ngorongoro is set on the slopes of a dormant volcano, close to absolutely nothing else. This high-altitude offering is sumptuous, fun and extremely comfy throughout.
The suites sleep two, or three, unless you’re in the family suite where a second bedroom gives even more space. The honeymoon tent is furnished with an outdoor hot tub.
After a day game driving in the Ngorongoro Crater, or hiking the nearby Empakaai Crater (possible from no other camp), the whisky bar and library provide entertainment in the evenings for travellers big and small.
The location is a little away from the Ngorongoro Crater, so it’s not the closest option for crater game drives, however, the huge benefit of staying here is the access to some of Tanzania’s best hiking. Both Olmoti and Empakaai craters are within reach and active families will love the picturesque walks through some of humanity’s most ancient sites.
The Highlands is run by Asilia, who manage and own some of East Africa’s finest safari properties. The service and guiding here is exceptional. Think warm, cosy food enjoyed by the fire in the evening. After dinner, make your way back down the slope to your cosy suite to sit by the wood-burning stove and sip a Baileys hot chocolate.
