andBeyond Lake Manyara Tree Lodge is a real hidden gem. Sleep in the forest canopy at this beautifully secluded property tucked away in a remote corner of the mahogany forest of Lake Manyara National Park.

The only permanent property in the park, a stay here gives unrivalled access to this under-explored destination famous for its resident tree-climbing lions.

Most visitors to Lake Manyara National Park just come for the day on the way between Arusha and Ngorongoro and only explore the area closest to the park gate, so a stay at the tree lodge deep in the forest can feel like being in a private concession. Early morning journeys to the lake shore and night drives looking for lions only add to this sensation.

The lodge is operated by andBeyond who have an incredible heritage of community engagement and conservation. The signature activity here is the Mayoka community bike ride, which is a fantastic experience cycling through and interacting with the local villages, before ending at the lake shore for a private sundowner in true andBeyond style.

As well as lions in trees, the park is known for its incredibly diverse birdlife. Approximately 400 resident and migratory birds are found in this relatively small park, due to the diversity of ecosystems present. Flamingoes congregate in the shallow waters of the lake in huge numbers from November to March. 

The treehouse suites are a sight to behold and add an extra element of excitement and fun to a safari. The lodge includes a family suite so if you’re travelling with younger explorers you don’t have to worry about them being far away.
