Lemala Ngorongoro Tented Camp
A secluded tented camp in acacia forests, on the edge of the Ngorongoro crater rim
Lemala Ngorongoro Tented Camp
Small and intimate camp in a prime location for Ngorongoro crater safaris
This beautifully-positioned camp is reached via a meandering drive up the side of the Ngorongoro crater.
The tented camp is set in thick acacia forest, a stone’s throw from the crater rim itself, and one of the roads down to the crater floor – this is a huge plus, as it means beating the crowds each morning.
Your family will be one of the very first admiring the stunning wildlife and expansive views, all while still sipping your morning coffee. Lunch can be had hot on the Crater floor, or you can return to the camp and spend the afternoon relaxing in the dappled shade until sundowner time where you can gather round the lovely camp fire area, swap tales from the day, sip your drinks and toast marshmallows before dinner.
Activities here mostly centre on game drives and walks in or around the Ngorongoro crater, but visit to the local Maasai communities are possible, and there are many longer, scenic walks to be had in the area too.
Children of any age will find plenty to keep them occupied. If the wilderness and wild animals are not enough, we would suggest a visit to Mto wa Mbu village, and hour or so away, to visit colourful markets, rice fields, local wood carvers, painters and experience a whole other way of life with a local lunch.

Why we love it
“Staying at this pretty, quiet camp means you can be in one of the first game-viewing vehicles on the Crater floor in the morning, with as much as an hour’s head start on people staying elsewhere. The Ngorongoro Crater gets extremely busy, so this is a huge advantage.”
