Where is Kwandwe Game Reserve?
Around a two-hour drive from Port Elizabeth airport, Kwandwe lies in South Africa’s Eastern Cape province.
Its location and family friendly credentials make it the perfect starting point or conclusion to a self-drive holiday, including Cape Town and the Garden Route.
What to do?
Kwandwe Game Reserve is home to two intimate lodges and a small handful of exclusive use villas. Boasting a particularly high staff to visitor ratio, great flexibility is offered, meaning you won’t miss out on the many activities on offer.
Your twice daily game drives will be an undoubted highlight, with added flexibility offered for those travelling with children. Kids on safari will dig out their welcome packs and will love ticking off the various animals on specially themed checklists.
Catch and release fishing, visits to a local community centre and guided bush walks can all be arranged.
Back at the lodge, little ones can don their aprons and chef’s hats and get creative in the kitchen. Sand art, beading and African bedtime stories complete an action-packed day. Happy, exhausted children guaranteed!
Best time to visit?
The summer months between November and March bring the hottest days but also the highest chance of rain. Kwandwe receives more rain than coastal areas or the Western Cape, however, this results in a landscape that is greener than most.
The drier months between June and August are pleasantly warm by day but can get a little chilly overnight. However, fear not as blankets and hot water bottles are never far away.
Who should visit?
With dedicated adult and family lodges, every household is covered. Three hosted villas sleeping up to eight, cater particularly well for multi-generational families.
The range of activities on offer and the inherent flexibility built into the days means that even families with the youngest children will be made to feel at home.
